Restaurant: Union Palace Restaurant
Location: Souq Al Zafarana
City: Al Ain
Country: UAE
Setting: The place is nice and clean but not much of a crowd surprisingly. I guess people dont know good food if they saw it. If you come at night during the weekened you might see some helicopters landing near by to attend a wedding.
Telephone: 037638606...oh yeah they deliver.
Dish: Potato Stuffed with Seafood.
Sitting on the table pretending to listen to my wife; who occasionally shoves food in my mouth while yelling "taste this ...taste this!!"; I see a beauty passing by and that was the first time I meet her...I mean "it" ...my current favorite dish "Potato Stuffed with Seafood". The moment I saw it I knew that I had to try it...and I was right ...it was everything I expected and more.
The potato is used as a bowl which I think is brilliant. I can make a mess and eat the bowl too.
The contents inside the potato is seafood. I know for a fact there is shrimp but uncertain if the remaining chunks are lobster or crab. The cream is rich in taste that makes you concentrate on the food rather then the conversation around you.
The rice that comes with this dish is not really necessary. The potato is heavy itself and with the rice it becomes too much to handle. The steamed vegetables(carrot and cucumber) are light and gives the balance with the potato.
You have a choice of mashed potato or french fries. I choose the fries but my better other half did a hostel take over of the plate.
The butterfly shaped tomato.....I just leave the poor thing alone.
Make sure you have your choice of beverage ready to chug down with this dish. My preference here would be Coke.
The wine leaves I ordered extra are very nice but that's me needing some finger food before the main dish comes in. But when the main course is here you can never go back to the appetizers.
